Motivating verbally talented and gifted children in the classroom? Try top word and sentence games like You’ve been Sentenced!, Apples to Apples and more!

April 12, 2011

About.com recently listed the top nine word games and sentence games to try with gifted kids. And, leading the list of fantastic games was the You’ve been Sentenced! word game. Here’s what About.com Gifted Kids had to say,

“Do you have a kid who loves words and letters?  Verbally gifted kids just love letters, words, and word play, so these games are perfect for them…

1. You’ve Been Sentenced!

This sentence-building game consists of 540 five-sided cards.& Each card has five different grammatical variations of the same word (i.e. wish, wishes, wished, wishing, wisher). Working with a hand of ten cards, players try to create the longest grammatically correct sentence — that makes sense! Players can challenge the grammar and sense of other players’ sentences. The challenger and the challenged player then plead their cases to the “jury,” which consists of the rest of the players. Much of the fun comes from these challenges. The game is for three to ten players, ages 8 and up.”

Other top games include Sentence Says Game, Smart Mouth Game, Bananagrams, Apples to Apples Junior and more. To read the article in its entirety, please visit About.com Gifted Kids
